The State Of The Nation
In the last year 43% of businesses and 28% of charities have reported a cyber security attack. In numeric terms that is over 600,000 businesses and nearly 60,000 charities – and these are just the ones that have reported an attack. Year on year the numbers have remained steady.
Although large and medium size businesses tend to be targeted more (think JLR, M&S and Co-op), cyber attacks have also hit small business such as KNP Logistics and Kido Nursery, the former of which went bust having been in business for 158 years!
What Attacks Are Most Common?
Over 90% of businesses experience Phishing attacks. That is when the malicious party tries to obtain passwords, banking information or install Malware. Hacking only makes up for 8% of attacks, but is often more serious as it is very focused and directed. Lastly, Viruses and Ransomware make up around 10% of attacks on businesses.
